Find your spot

Can you remember your first workplace? Do you have "your spot" in a cafè where you hide away to get things done? Do you cover your desk with plants and pictures to make it "your own"?

Well, you are not the only one.

At The Carrot Collective, we think that it’s possible to work from anywhere in the world, as long as there is a good wifi connection, but we are also mindful that not everyone can have the ideal surroundings to feel as productive as they would like. This is why we highlight the importance of the physical space we build because, for us, it is equivalent to the vital essence we give to interpersonal relationships: both are fundamental components for one's psychological and physical well-being in an increasingly virtual world.

Over the years, several scientific and psychological researches have shown how much the physical environment surrounding us (be it an office, a café, an airport or the desk in the kitchen) influences our productivity and mood. Places anchor your career and shape your sense of self, as this interesting article on HBR says.

Brianna Barker Caza, Alyson Meister, and Blake E. Ashforth (Associate Professor of Management, Professor of Leadership and Organizational Behaviour, and Regents Professor) explain in this HBR article: "Places shape us — and we, in turn, shape them — because they can satisfy various identity motives, such as our fundamental needs for a home to feel belonging and acceptance, to learn and grow, and to have a sense of continuity over time and coherence about who we are."

We couldn’t agree more!
