What motivates us to work
According to the behavioural economist Dan Ariely, it's all about constant progress and a sense of purpose. Indeed, most of us thrive when driven by the meaningfulness of our work, others' acknowledgement, and the effort we have put into it: the more challenging the job is, the prouder we are.
This article by the American writer Jessica Gross explains a few studies cited by Ariely and others, with fascinating implications for what makes us feel good about our job. As Ariely says in his TED talk, "The reality is that we should probably add all kinds of things to it: meaning, creation, challenges, ownership, identity, pride, ..."
Work is a constant in everyone's life. We can’t lie. At The Carrot Collective, we imagine a future of work that is organised and flexible, asynchronous, and with a holistic vision. We think that now is the time to build the foundations to achieve this future: we have the tools and the technologies but, above all, the mindset.
